daVinci Robotic Surgery
Dr. Pagette is a trained and certified robotic surgeon. She is trained on the da Vinci Robotic system. It is a state-of-the-art surgical system designed to help surgeons perform complicated surgeries, which were previously only able to be performed with large abdominal incisions.
The potential benefits include:
- very small incisions
- significantly less postoperative pain
- less blood loss and a decreased risk of blood transfusions
- less scarring
- shorter recovery time
- quicker return to most activities
How does robotically-assisted surgery differ for the surgeon?
Surgeons have a distinct advantage of better visualization, as the robot provides a three dimensional view. The surgeon can also move the surgical instruments with more precision and the surgeon can move his or her wrists 360 degrees.
Although the system is called a “robot,” the da Vinci Surgical System cannot act on its own. Instead, every surgical maneuver is performed only under the precise control of a surgeon.
